Well i bought a subscription to Vimeo because i always thought that the video quality there was slightly better than youtube … if you squint … kinda. Both sites allowed Half def 720p HD video. Until now that is. I read this post [ 1080p HD is coming to Youtube ] last week on the Youtube Blog and i’ve been dying to try it out. So i shot a little test clip in 1080 HD and have uploaded it to youtube. Now the weather conditions here are miserable and grey, hardly ideal! So i’m not sure how good this is gonna look.

I’ve been looking for somewhere to upload both photos and videos. For pix i used Flickr and for videos i used Viddyou and had paid accounts with both. I’ve also tried Vimeo which i like and YouTube which is full of idiotic children leaving idiotic comments, so although HD videos look ok on YouTube, it’s still the a trailertrash video site. So anyway, i found SmugMug! It’s certainly not the cheapest of pix and video hosting solutions but i reckon it’s the best. Your photos are displayed very professionally and you can even sell them through SmugMug. But what really impressed me was their HD video! I’ve uploaded a couple of HD videos and they look amazing on there. Plus you get embed codes so you can embed either dvd quality video or web quality (see below).
Viddyou videos look better embedded i think, however, go to SmugMug and watch the video in full size High Def and you really notice a difference! –> Click Here

*This is a sticky so look further down for updates*
Christmas 2008 i had a High Def Camcorder ( Canon HF100 ) and i have set up an account at this video hosting site: http://www.viddyou.com/elektrobix. It’s kinda like Youtube only with less 12 year olds having vomiting competitions, College kids setting fire to eachother and Chris fucking Crocker. In other words it aint trashy. I think it was originally intended for video bloggers but since they enable high definition video uploads *and* embedding i think it’s appealing to HD video makers too. Kinda like Vimeo but less costly and less restrictions!
I love photography but i’ve felt for a while like branching out a bit. My first videos will obviously be dodgy but i hope that by the end of the year i’ll coming up with some not-half-bad vids. We shall see. Maybe i should do a Chris Crocker style video ….
