Hoorah!

Now i’ve only had a quick play because i’m putting it up for Christmas for my prezzie. Anyway, very impressed! I bought an ebook (Coraline) from Amazon last night and it beamed it straight to my kindle. I’ve also got a collection of eBooks on my computer that i’ve sent to it and all seem to be displaying just fine. I’m fast running out of room for my book collection so this should hopefully be ideal. The screen is very easy on the eye as it sin’t backlit like a compute screen, it really does look like you’re reading paper.

Some would argue, why would you want to carry around hundreds of books? Same reason you carry around thousands of songs on your iPod, so you have you’re whole collection with you because you can’t predict what you might be in the mood for reading/listening to in the future. Plus i sometimes like to read more than one novel at the same time.

You can even have your newspaper sent to your Kindle every morning and i believe some magazines too. I don’t think the UK version can read blogs unlike the US version yet but i’m sure it will only be a matter of time.

If you have any ebooks that need converting to a Kindle friendly format then i’d strongly recommend using Mobipocket creator. It’s free and very quick and simple to use. You can find free books at:

http://www.planetebook.com/
http://www.gutenberg.org
http://thekindlewarehouse.com/free-kindle-ebooks/

If like me you’re a book lover but you’re running out of shelf space then this could be just the thing!

A good week this week for fellow nerds. Amazon Kindle is finally coming the UK (and other countries too).

I’m over the moon because i’m a big reader and my book collection is getting ridiculous. They’re spilling from shelves and bookcases to being stacked up on the floor. I know i could use the library but i have a bit of a germ thing and you never never who has been reading what on the toilet *shudder*.

Anyhoo! You can order it from Amazon US. It’s a new international version but for the time being can only be imported from America. I’ve got mine pre-ordered and hopefully it will be here on the 23rd October. Unless of course it sells out and whoever pre-ordered it before me gets it first (SCREAM!). I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Here’s a link to where you can find some free ebooks for your Kindle (or other ereader): www.TheKindleWarehouse.com

Oh and some sites have been suggesting that Brits downloading books to their Kindle from Amazon will have to pay a $1.99 roaming fee per book, this isn’t true *hoorah*. It’ll be very handy being able to download a book without being attached to a computer or near a wifi spot. I often like to read more than one book at a time so it’ll be ideal for me. Can’t wait!
