I wasn’t exactly a big fan of Whitney but i did like her voice and i grew up in the 80′s to a lot of her songs so it’s always sad to see an icon that you grew up with die so young. If she hadn’t been so messed up with drugs then i’m sure she’d have had a lot more hit albums under her belt. RIP Whitters.
Yes i’m almost 38 and yes i’ve bought a pair of Skullcandy headphones but i’m not having a midlife crisis i tell you! I was looking for new over-the-ears and last xmas i was trying various ones on in HMV. I immediately tried on Dre Beats expecting to be blown away and i couldn’t believe how shit they sounded! I usually wear Ultimate Ears Extended Bass inner ears and to this date i’ve found nothing with as much bass as them. But i’ve head them for years and fancied something more comfortable. So i tried on these Aviators (not expecting a great deal) and i truly was blown away!
I know there are better sounding cans out there for the money but my needs were pretty specific:
1. Fairly compact
2. Don’t make me look like a twat
(Bye Bye Dre’s)
3. Built in mic and iPhone control
4. Tough or replacable Cabling
5. Good all round sound with nice bass (i like bass) but not at the expense of details.
6. Comfortable on my slightly larger than average head!
So yea, pretty specific and honestly there’s nothing else out there that i could find that ticked all of those boxes. Sound wise i’m more than happy, i find the best setting on iPhone is actually switching the EQ off or Treble boost as the bass is quite overpowering at times. I’ve seen some reviews where people have said there isn’t enough bass so i assume they either like having their skulls cracked open with boomage or they’re listening to shit recordings.
The cable is kevlar reinforced so it’s really tough and doesn’t get knotted. The iPod/iPhone control is a little high up the cable and it feels a bit plasticy compared to the rest of the phones. The headphone jack is straight, personally i’d have preferred an L-Shaped one as i think they sit more compact in your pocket and put less stress on the jack socket when you’re moving around on the go. I hope it doesn’t weaken over time. The ear pads are memory foam and they’re really comfortable. I wear these for hours some nights when i’m sat in front of my laptop gaming.
Sound-wise, really chuffed. I played a bit of Guetta earlier (i can’t stand him but i wanted to test the bass on dance songs) and the sound was very good, nice and boomy but still clear, no muddyness at all. I’m now listening to N-Plants by Biosphere and they’re doing a great job of picking out the details. So yep, very happy i got them and even happier that the price has come down to £100. Not sure i’d have parted with £170 for them. Added bonus, they look great! Not at all garish like the usual Skullcandies.
I’m kinda surprised at the usual music snobs writing these off – well no i’m not surprised, they are snobs after all. I may not be an audiophile but i know shit when i hear it and these are most definitely not shit. For the price and with these features (iPhone control / tough removable wiring / Lifetime Warranty / Well Built / Comfy) i’d go as far as to say that they are unmatched.
4 and a half stars. Half a star off for the mic/remote positioning and cheap feel and the jack which i think would have been better L shaped and i’m being picky with that because as i say, there was nothing else out there that suited me as well.
*UPDATE* Well after an incident with my white Aviators i sent them back but i couldn’t get a replacement in white as they were out of stock. So i had the black ones instead and to my surprise they have sent me the updated model – which has a detachable cable – which is fabulous! This is much better, now i’m confident they will last a bit longer as it’s usually the cable that breaks on me.
The best video that Madonna has done in YEARS!

It’s such a great era this time around, it feels like the old days where her releases were shrouded in mystery. Her new record label has done a great job of slowly drip feeding the new material (apart from the the demo leakage!). Oh and i also got a re-tweet from the songs producer Martin Solveig…
@elektrobix @msolveig Great job with our queen! #GMAYL #MDNA #LUV MSOLVEIG :)

Get me. I’ve got the album on pre-order, bought the song and now i’m waiting till i can buy the video. I wonder how Gaga is coping with the original Queen trending even higher than her on twitter right now :)
